Based at the Moffitt Cancer Center, Florida, Cancer Ecology is a small research group led by David Basanta. We are mathematical modellers who work with biologists and clinicians, trying to understand the ecology of tumors and the evolutionary dynamics of cancer progression and resistance to treatment.

Goodbye for now Sofia

Goodbye for now Sofia

After two months of hard work, Sofia John and Anna have developed a simple model to study the impact of treatment in a tumor made of resistance and non resistant cells where the different tumor populations are driven by cell line data generated by our collaborators at the Lynch lab. This model allowed Sofia and Anna to compare the patterns of resistance to treatment with and without the interference of the microenvironment in the shape of of environmentally-derived resistance. I suspect this is only the start of a nice paper so we will keep you guys updated with the work that will surely follow.

And of course, many thanks to Heiko Enderling, the driving force behind this internship program that keeps bringing the students that will soon become the future of cancer research.
