Based at the Moffitt Cancer Center, Florida, Cancer Ecology is a small research group led by David Basanta. We are mathematical modellers who work with biologists and clinicians, trying to understand the ecology of tumors and the evolutionary dynamics of cancer progression and resistance to treatment.

Etienne to present at the 2018 Moffitt Scientific Symposium

Etienne might be the first mathematical oncologist asked to give a short presentation at a Moffitt Scientific Symposium since the IMO department was formed here almost 10 years ago. So this is a major milestone and a recognition by Moffitt of the importance of IMO in particular and mathematical oncology in general.

Moffitt is indeed a very forward looking research center. That allows it to do work of a caliber that would only be possible in bigger and more established places. This is, in my view, the result of our focus on team science, for which disciplines like mathematical oncology can make a big difference.

Today we received an email with this content with regards to the presentations at the scientific symposium:

No person (Moffitt employee or non-Moffitt employee) may disseminate any material that they do not own the copyright to, or have verifiable written permission from the copy right holder to present the material in this space. This includes any type of streaming media such as, but not limited to: YouTube, Pandora, veemo, etc.  Please make it clear that the sharing of any of these types of materials is a violation of copyright laws, as well as, is against Moffitt policies.

I look forward a near-term future where the default for a scientific presentation is that the information is to be shared. If you are attending any of my presentations feel free to do so
